The BMW ActiveHybrid 7 was the first vehicle in the BMW lineup to use a hybrid drivetrain. The production version of the vehicle was shown at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show. The version used the engine from the 750i model in the 7 series and an electric motor. The car's powertrain was modified in 2012 to switch from the 750i turbocharged engine to the engine from the 740i model. This caused a big improvement with regards to the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.
